"You're Allowed to be Happy"

"You're Allowed to be Happy"

A voice came into my head and said that to me the other day and I haven't stopped thinking about it.

I've been noticing more and more in my clients and my friends that there is so much "should-ing" going on!

"I should be doing this, I should be doing that, I really should ___ but I want to ____"

A handful of folks on my life say things like, "you know, I thought that I should _____ but it just felt like too much and what I really need is _____"

It's inspiring! And lovely to be around. Relaxing, fun, happy.

The problem is, its not so easy to let go of the "shoulds". They are rooted deep and they hold on tight.

So, what if you started by getting used to the idea that you are allowed to be happy. Or relaxed or fulfilled or (insert yours here).

You're allowed. There I said it.

(Don't worry, I'm saying it as much to myself as I am to you)

But I wonder what would change if we turned that into a bit of a mantra, "I'm allowed to be.....". What might change or shift? What kinds of decisions might you make?

I encourage you to try it out, just keep reminding yourself that you are allowed. Feel how that lands with you. Is it uncomfortable? Does it feel possible?

Please tell me how it goes if you feel so inclined! Just leave a comment below or send me a message.

I'm ever-curious about how you incorporate these simple little words into your life and of course always here to support if needed.

Speaking of support. Doors are OPEN yo my group coaching program called The Studio. I just found this humble brag in my notes app that I wrote right after a studio session...

"Today I was able to work with one of the studio members one to one. The second group call of the month is where I show up to coach whoever needs support. Today, only one studio member joined the group call so it became a whole hour of one to one coaching with her.

And what an hour it was! She started the call scattered and scrambled with so many things she wanted to do in the next 6 months and not knowing where to start. She desperately wanted a plan and a vision. At the end of the call she had a clear vision - in fact it was written out for her on a sheet of paper that she can read over and over to remind herself of the end goal and stay on task. And she had a clear plan of action. A plan of action that is broken into simple small steps. She already checked one off this afternoon and emailed me for accountability. I’m so looking forward to seeing what she accomplishes tomorrow!

This work is so gratifying. Sometimes it’s the deep emotional work and sometimes it’s the tactical tangible steps towards success. I got to do both today in my work with my clients. Who I love. SO MUCH! "
